Zoo-phonics is a complete language arts program that teaches using a cast of 26 Animal/Letter characters, using a whole-brain, kinesthetic approach.

How do some others compare...

One teaches 4 letters at a time, Q, R, S, T. The child is taught both capital and lowercase letters at the same time for these 5 letters. They teach a letter and its sound a lesson (15 minutes) 3 days a week only. So it will take 2 weeks to teach this set of letters. There are 26 letters in the alphabet, so it will take 10 weeks to teach the whole alphabet. ZOO TEACHES IT IN 3 DAYS TO 2 WEEKS (2 weeks is mastery level). That's all it takes to learn the shapes, signals and sounds of the letters.

Another teaches the alphabet, 1 letter at a time, letter name, capital etc. Then moves to teaching phonics with no bridge between developing sound recognition and sound blending. Then, the child has tapes and flip cards so s/he reads: at, bat, fat, cat, hat, etc. But it is memory work, not sound blending.
