Bringing Us All TogetherDear Friend,Welcome to the exciting world of Zoo-phonics. Thank you so much for visiting! Im Debra Hughes, president and founder of Wiz Kids LLC and the Children's Achievement Center. Thats me in the photo with my not-quite four year old daughter, Piper, a happy Zoo-phonics kid herself. It was Piper that brought us all together. Let me tell you a little bit about that... ... It was shortly before Pipers third birthday, I was monkeying around on the Internet when I stumbled across a mention of the program. I checked out the Zoo-phonics web site right away and thought to myself that it sounded pretty interesting. Definitely worth a shot (I had been wanting to teach her to read but had been unable to find a program that worked for us).
Well we got the package and eagerly opened it. It was jam packed full of stuff. Piper nabbed the Zeke Zebra stuffed animal right off. I read through the manual, although I have to admit that I only read the first chapters in the beginning (dont tell Char - I was just so eager to get started).
We unwrapped the Animal cards and went through them. Piper was so interested in what we were doing. To her we were playing a great new game. What an instant relief. The last thing I wanted was for it to feel like work, for either of us. And I never want to feel like Im pushing her. What I heard instead was More, Mommy, more! In only a matter of days she had learned all the animal signals and sounds. We moved on to the merged animals and then the lowercase letters by themselves. It had to be just weeks, Im sure it was less than a month, before she could associate the sounds and signals with just the lowercase letter itself. And read simple words like cat, on her own. Wow. So, of course, I started telling everyone I saw about this amazing program Id found. Instantly every parent I talked to wanted to get it for their child. It dawned on me one day that maybe I could help Char and Gigi to bring Zoo-phonics to more parents and kids. I wrote them a letter and the rest is history as they say. Try Zoo-phonics for yourself and your family. I guarantee (literally) that you will not be disappointed. Whether your child is a baby, a 3rd grader, or even has special needs, Zoo-phonics is the perfect path to reading. And reading is the path to success in life. And please be sure to write to me and let me know about your family and your successes! Warm regards, Debra Hughes PS. Piper now reads us a Zoo-phonics mini-book every night. She still sounds out a lot of the words but her progress continues to astound us. Every day she's more confident and proud. (When she's finished reading we pretend that the Zeke Zebra on the back is dancing and singing "Go, girl!" It always gives Piper a grin ear to ear. I love it!) |
